100% of the piped water in Guatemala is unsafe for drinking and contains parasites, yet most families lack the resources to purify it. This health risk is compounded in rural Guatemala, where 81% of the country's poor live and cook over traditional open stoves that produce toxic fumes within homes, resulting in lung and heart diseases, cancers, and 50% of the deaths of children age 5 and under.
